Fashion Friday: Shopping as a Larger Gal

This post is a little bit of a weird one for me to write. It's no secret that I'm on the larger side of life, but it's not something I've ever really highlighted in a sense as why would I a) want to and b) need to? However many of the bloggers that I love to read and watch have such amazing style and leave me thinking, ooo I want something like that, but when I've come to get something I realise it's very hard to find things on the highstreet in a style and size that suit me. This left me thinking, surely there are some people out there who read my blog who feel the same.

Over the last six months to a year I've found myself piling on a quite a few more pounds, leaving me at the biggest I've ever been (a completely different topic/post, and something I plan to deal with but probably not online and not the point of this post) and whilst I've always been the largest size in some shops, I've found I've now limited myself to only a few highstreet shops as many stores stop at a smaller size 16.

So whilst I aim to try and get back into a size which means I can shop the highstreet properly again (which could be a whole other ranty blog post but I'll just leave it at the average female size in the UK is a 16; why do shops stop stocking at that size? Average does not mean largest!) I thought I'd share with you the shops I've found for girls like me who live on the larger side of life.

ASOS Curve - I've never really enjoyed online shopping, as I always feel that I need to try clothes on before I buy them; but I must admit I'm an ASOS convert. They're main range does go up to a size 18, which means I have the luxury (if you can call it that) of shopping their main range and their Curve range. I find that many of their clothes come elasticised which means they have a bit of a give to them. I also like how they have their 'catwalk' which means you can see how the product fits and the type of material. There are also descriptions on the type of material the product is made of, and the size the model is wearing plus her height, allowing you to visualise yourself in the outfit too.
Asda - Asda has always been a love of mine. I'm really lucky to have a massive Asda a five minute drive away, and often find myself heading down just to have a wonder. One of the major highlights of Asda is their clothes are reasonably priced, kind of like Primark, so if you want to try a trend that only lasts one season, you aren't wasting loads of money. I'm pretty sure Asda goes up to a size 24 (it could be a 26, I'm not too sure) which is better than most highstreet shops, as this in their regular line, they don't have a plus range.  I used to find Asda clothes to come up on the smaller side, however now I think they're pretty much true to size. If you're someone who has a fluctuating waistline, like myself, the price and quality of these clothes really can't be grumbled at.

New Look - I used to hold New Look in such high regard, it was always my go to place to shop, and it still is, but my one complaint is the shop near where I work hardly ever stocks clothes over a size 12 (however it is a small one!) That aside, I do still find New Look a good store to shop in. Currently I can get into a size 18 in most of their clothes in their main line, however do find myself looking in their Inspire line when I spot it in shops too. One of the positives of New Look is you can order online and collect in store, so if you see something you like, but your size is unavailable you can order it online. Some of their Inspire stuff, in my opinion can look a bit frumy, put some of it can come out trumps so it's a bit hit and miss. But they are one of the few highstreet shops I've found to be good value, still classed as 'trendy' and go up to an 18.

Dorothy Perkins - I'm pretty sure Dorothy Perkins goes up to a size 22 in most of their stock, however I'm not 100% sure. The main reason I'm including Dotty P's is because I love their jeans. As someone whose weight tends to be mainly in the stomach area, finding trousers on the higshtreet is super difficult. Their super soft skinny jeans are so comfortable. I have these in black and blue and fit into an 18 in them, whereas I can't do up an 18 in the other jeans which is odd; but, I don't mind as they're the comfiest jeans I've ever owned. They're what I imagine the Topshop Leigh Jeans (which I doubt my right leg would fit in) would feel like.

So I hope you like this post and it's been slightly helpful? If you have the same struggle, where do you like to shop?

Laura xoxo

I realise this is a very different topic for me, and have ummed and ahhed about whether I should post this, but I feel it's something that I would like to discuss. I do not mean this post to come across as me asking for you to tell me how beautiful I am, as I'm already aware ;) (this is not an ooo I'm so ugly so I'll upload this picture to Facebook so everyone can know type post.) It's just meant to be me saying, I struggle buying stuff from highstreet shops, which as someone who reads many blogs of people wearing those clothes is annoying, and I wish to share my solution to other people in my situation.

Fashion Fave: Nike New Balance 420 Trainers

Me, posting about trainers? I'm scaring myself. Now before you start thinking I've truly changed, I didn't get these for fitness purposes. For a long time I've always wanted some burgundy converse, however even though converse are comfy they can hurt after a while. These make me feel like I'm walking on air though. I love them. They really are the comfiest shoes ever.

I picked them up from ASOS for £54 (student discount) and they are the best purchase I've made all year. Whilst I realise I sound like a 50 year old woman, I'm loving wearing comfortable shoes.

Have you got a pair of these? What do you think?

Fashion Friday: Stop Trying to Make Winter Happen

It's already happened!!!
In case you can't tell, the weather is having a serious BF (bitch fit, for those of you who haven't watched White Chicks.) I went shopping at the weekend and got a blouse I thought was gorgeous for summer, but I've realized I'm going to have to make it work for this swinter we are having right now.

The top is from New Look and it reminded me of some crockery my nan had, and I love it.

Of course I would prefer to be wearing it like this:

So please hurry up summer.

Fashion Friday: 3 Ways to Wear - LBD

I seem to be on a bit of an obsession with finding a little black dress. Every girl needs one, and I was yet to really own one. I then found this one from ASOS  and I really like it. I then thought I'd show you three ways I plan to wear it.

One: Casual

I'm looking forward to wearing a look like this in summer. Please hurry up!

Evening:

A nice pair of heels and you're good to go!

Work:

I love this George blazer so much, and I think it makes the dress perfect for the office.

How do you wear a little black dress?

Fashion Friday: New Addition

I picked this dress up from Asda for £16 a couple of weeks ago, after seeing it and falling completely in love. I think it's the lace peter pan collar that did it for me, along with the fact I've been desperate to add some black dresses to my collection.

Now I've got it home, I'm on the fence about it. It's not the most flattering on me, but that I can deal with. I think the main part is trying to dress it down enough to be worn in the day time as I feel it has a very old fashioned/dressy vibe to it.

Regardless of how I feel about myself in it, I love the dress, and felt I just had to share it with you today.

Happy Friday :)

Laura xoxo

P.S I also feel very Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's in this dress, and in true making myself look like an idiot fashion, here is me trying to be here!

Fashion Friday: Currently Loving

This week I thought I would show you a few things I am currently loving at the moment.

I've been wanting a pair for ages, and was lucky enough to get some for Christmas, still unsure on how much they suit me, I love how comfy they are so I forgo how fashionable I look in them.

My new handbag (Topshop.) My loved Zara bag finally bit the dust, and this is the replacement. I really like it, it's quite different for me, but I love the choice of having a long strap and the two shorter straps.

I am also loving wearing my skater skirts.

What are you loving at the moment?

Fashion Friday

If you love something, buy it in every colour

I don't try to live by many mantras, but this is something that I am definitely guilty of. After my last shopping trip I realized I had bought things I already had, but just a different colour, so I thought today's post could be around that idea. I also want to apologise for the quality of the pictures, my camera didn't want to play, and I didn't have all day. (Oo I'm  a poet.)

Skater Skirts
New Look // Topshop

For me, there is something about wearing tights that just make me feel feminine. I don't know why, it just does. I'm not really a jeans girl, and I just got stuck wearing leggings all the time. I started by getting this black skirt from Topshop, and then over Christmas I saw my friend in this New Look one, so I just had to snatch it up when I saw it on my last shopping trip.

Both New Look

I always used to wear my black skirt, so picked one up with some colour to it, as I seem to be a slave to black at times.

Both Topshop

These jumpers/tops are soo comfy, and after living in my blue one, I picked it up on white. They are just sooo comfortable.

Topshop

Comfort is a massive factor in the way I dress, and this jumper from Topshop is just that. I love it, soo comfy and cosy and just gorgeous.

Topshop

Rachel bought the green version of this dress on a shopping trip with me, and then on another I bought the reddish one, and then decided I just loved it so much, I had to get it in green too. I am a copy cat, and I don't care.

So are you like me? Or do you think I'm plain silly like my lovely mom does?

Blogmas Countdown: 11 Party Pieces

As it's Friday, which usually means Fashion Friday, I thought I'd make today's countdown post a fashiony one. So I've used 11 pieces, to make three outfits fit for a fabulous (I love alliteration) Christmas party.

I think the colour of this dress is just gorgeous and the sequins give it that Christmas vibe. If you can bear to bare your bare legs, then these shoes would add the perfect Christmas sparkle, along with a matching clutch. When else could you wear these but Christmas?

If this skirt doesn't scream Christmas sparkle, then what does? I also love the collar of this shirt. Perfect for a Christmas party.

I want these shoes sooo badly. I think they are so elegant and gorgeous. Also, if you can't wear a red dress at Christman, then when can you? I think it's gorgeous, and the clutch is just so beautiful.

What do you think of these part pieces?

Fashion Friday: Third Year Student

So, a little different Fashion Friday post this week (at least there is one?) although I'm sure anybody fashionable would find me commitable for using Fashion in the title, at least it's Friday. So, as I'm sure I've moaned enough, you will be aware I am in my final year of university, and just like anybody in education, before we can get all jolly and merry, we have to meet our deadlines. So with that in mind, my blog has taken a little back seat, and my creative cap has moved onto desire in two texts I've studied this year (true story,) but I didn't want to leave you with no post again, so I thought I'd show you essential student deadline attire.

Unless I have to leave the house, I do not get dressed, and to be honest these clothes shouldn't be seen by anyone, but hey ho, this is only the internet right?

To get this look you will need, a comfy hoodie, this is where your dad, brother or boyfriend come in very handy. You will also need a pair of unflattering trousers and a pair of slippers.

Make-up should be non existent and hair should resemble a very messy bun.

Hopefully this time next week I will be finished for a while and stop doing this:

And be able to do this:

Happy Friday everybody, work is calling.

Fashion Friday - Sparkle With Every Step

I spotted these beautiful boots, when shopping with a friend, however they didn't have my size. Then when I was in Bristol I struck lucky and managed to nab a pair.

The heel is hardly anything which makes them super comfortable, but still gives you a little lift.

I just love the sparkly detail on the back, I think it is perfect for this time of year.

I just had to share them with you, and you can pick them up from New Look for £24!

What do you think?

Fashion Friday: What I Wore

Dress: George at Asda
Necklace: Dotty Dolly

As I've mentioned, last week was my best friends birthday, which resulted in the usual night out to celebrate. I started looking for a dress to wear about two weeks before, and after numerous stressful shopping trips, the night before I was meant to drive down, I walked into Asda and saw this, for the bargain price of £14. Needless to say, I was rather chuffed. I love the detail on the sleeves, and just how simple it is. I borrowed my friends burgundy clutch on the night, and I was really happy with how it turned out.

Have you got any, saved the day pieces?

Fashion Friday: How I Layer

With winter really making its presence known, it is type to whip out the layers, and I thought I would show you how I like to wear different layers.

Obviously I have on my long H&M vest, which I did picture, but skin tight clothes and me do not make it onto the internet, trust me, you should be thanking me.
Anyway, the first layer is this floaty white top from New Look. I think the key to layering is a mixture of floaty and structured items.

For my second layer I've put on this cardigan from George at Asda. I like how you can still see the cute detailing of the buttons, yet the rest of the cardigan is hidden. This is great for when it gets slightly too hot and I have to take my big cardigan off, as it means I don't have my arms on show!

The final layer is this gorgeous George at Asda cardgian my mom bought me for Christmas last year. I love it, it just screams winter to me, and is just perfect for layering.

Some Extra Layers:

H&M Scarf

New Look Boots and Socks

So I hope this has been slightly helpful to you, how do you layer in winter?

Laura xoxo

P.S Stay Warm ;)
