Excuse Me?

A little bit of a different post from me today, I wouldn't call it 'serious' maybe, but it is something that is bugging me ,and I felt the need to air it. I don't mean to offend anyone, or 'cause offense, quite the opposite really, I just really wanted to get it off of my chest. I am also aware that I am preaching to the converted because everyone that I've spoken to personally is lovely, and makes me enjoy blogging so much more, but this is something I've seen happening & has really begun to bother me. During the #bbloggers chat on Sunday, Jade tweeted a link to Kirstie's blog, and as I'd gotten quite fed up of the chat, which let me tell you, could be a whole different post, I had a good old nosey through, and whilst scrolling down, I came to this post, and let me tell you it hit a nerve.

I see so many people write ridiculous comments to others, Youtube is the worst, and it really grates on me. Just because people have a blog, Youtube channel, or are even a celebrity, it does not give other people the right to criticize and comment on your life. END OF.

Now I am no angel, I have the odd (cue, quite a few) bitchy moments, especially with friends when we comment on other people, I'm sure we all do, and to be honest, I'm trying to stop myself even thinking bitchy thoughts, what good does it do? But let's face, it is a girls instinct, sad but true, but there is a line. There is a big, albeit huge difference, between thinking a negative thought about someone and then writing it all over the internet for others to see. What gives someone the right to leave a comment saying, 'Someone's been hitting the fast food hard!! Thought this was a beauty channel? Lols' I mean really? Why would you take the time to watch something, then write a comment like that? Do you honestly feel like you're making any difference to anything?

We are all different, we all have different tastes, thoughts and ideas, that is what makes each and everyone one of us unique. I am under no illusion that everyone who clicks on my blog loves, or even likes it, and I know I click onto blogs that are not my taste, but I don't leave a nasty comment saying how much I don't like it, or what I think is wrong with it, I simply just click the little x button, and move on with my life. I honestly don't see why people would need to share their dislike for something, just because something does not suit your taste, does not mean that it won't suit others, and there are plenty of other blogs and Youtube channels which you will enjoy. Wouldn't you rather spend your time reading/watching that?

Now I started writing this post on Sunday when I was all riled up from Charlie's post, then when I came back to it, I didn't know if I should continue with it, but then the Cosmo blog award nominations came up, and oh my goodness, I was kind of shocked. Claws were out, teeth were bared, and a fair few snide comments began to surface. I mean I get it, we all put time and effort into our blogs, we all want recognition for that work, but we can't all get awards, sometimes we have to see our rewards as our readers, and people that comment, surely that is who we write for, no? (apart from ourselves, blah, blah, blah.) Now obviously I would love to win an award, but I was soo happy for the blogs I saw, especially the ones I read and love, but it appears some people were extremely bitter (and I do just mean some, others were very gracious and made me like them even more.) I get the fact that people were disappointed, but was really taking to twitter the right move? Why not bitch privately in your head, then congratulate everyone else?

Social media platforms have made it so much easier for people to be mean to each other. Wasn't the intention of it so that people could keep in contact with ease, share snippets of their lives, not for people to 'troll' others, and make people feel like crap? Imagine all the other drama that could've happened in Mean Girls had it been made a few years later.

I don't really know where I am going, or what I am getting at with this post, but every anonymous comment, rude comment and bitchy remark, grates on me more and more. It's not hard to keep things to yourself, or at least bitch privately. Deep down you aren't going to make yourself feel better, and your just going to make someone else feel like s**t too. There is enough reason to be miserable in the world, why add to it, especially in a medium in which people use as a hobbie and a bit of escapsism. I see so many people decided to take a break from blogging 'cause of mean things that are said to them, that is not OK!!!

Going back to Mean Girls, remember, 'Calling somebody else fat won't make you any skinnier. Calling someone stupid doesn't make you any smarter. And ruining Regina George's life definitely didn't make me any happier.' And if that doesn't convince you, how about the old favourite, 'if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.'

Just as I was about to finish this post, this comes up on my Twitter, point proven, no? Where is the need, or want for it?

Before I go, I just want to point out Emily's post, were she talks about how, people most likely aren't leaving nasty comments 'cause of jealousy, it is because people are just down right rude. She also wrote it much more beautifully than that, and think it deserves a read, as do the comments underneath, it shows I am not alone in thinking this!

I also want to leave you with this, think of it as some sort of Comic Relief.

And if that wasn't enough:

Hugs and loves
Laura xoxo

P.s feel the need to point out, I feel incredibly lucky that the people that read & comment here are extremely lovely, and I feel so fortunate to not have received any hate, or negative comments, this post was written purely because of what I see happen to others. Thank you so much for that!

  1. This kind of behaviour astonishes me, one of the reasons I keep myself private on my blog don't think I could handle the mean comments. I think the only thing you can do is ignore and move on, don't give these people any attention, that's what they want

  2. I liked this post, needs to be said really. I can't understand why people would waste their time bitching when it's more productive to just leave it and find something they do like! but you've said it all quite rightly already so I won't keep on haha.
And I love mean girls, and agree at how much more they could do if it was filmed now! Burn website rather than burn book :P xxxx

  3. great post. The trouble is when you get a lot of girls in one place there is always going to be bitching, its the way the world works. sad but true. All the talk and bitching about the cosmo awards really wound me up, its the first time something like that had bothered me, I usually let it go over my head, but some people really can't be happy for others. It made me think about weather I want to be a part of all this but I reminded myself that I have met some lovely people through blogging and it can be a positive place. Like other people have said, its best to ignore the bitching and drama. xxx
p.s loving the mean girls quote. Who doesn't love that film? x

  4. here here, its truly vile and disgusting the comments that are just thrown around on social network sites. I dont think a week goes by when theres not some form of drama between people on twitter, and as for the blog awards people really should be gracious and be happy for the ones who have been nominated.. absolutely brilliant post hun xx

  5. You've written such a great post! I can't believe how much bitchiness goes on in the world of blogging and it all really is uncalled for. I have been lucky enough not to encounter any bitchiness or rude comments yet but I'm now just preparing myself for them! Btw, love that photo of the baby! Cuteness overload!

  6. Such a good post Laura! I'm really happy you plucked up the courage to write and post this cos it needed to be said. While 99% of the blogging community are lovely there are some that can't be quiet or accept other people's happiness.

  7. this is great! i think about this a lot too because the amount of negative comments is astonishing, especially on the more popular youtube gurus like elle/blair fowler. it's amazing how many people stop to take the time to sign in, type up a ridiculous and horrible comment, press reply, and dislike videos. it's like seriously? don't you have better things to do??!

I know, I think Youtube should get rid of the dislike button, so much negativity.

  8. This is such a great post lovely! I really think about this a lot! I see so many mean comments when I am watching my favourite youtubers and also when I a reading bloggers, and don't even start about Twitter! Why would you even put "so much" effort in posting a nasty comment on someone's youtube or blog? If you don't like it, it is a waste of time to go comment on a youtube video or blog post, like you said, if you don't have anything nice to say, say anything at all!

  9. Here, here! I think you've put a positive spin on something which has clearly been bugging a LOT of fellow bloggers.
Everyone's making it up as they go along in this life, and unnecessary comments hold no worth whatsoever, other than to hurt another person.
I don't think it will ever go away but if someone reads this and changes their mindset, then it has to be a positive thing :)
