If I were to start my MAC palette again

I know for certain that if it wasn't for blogging, and other bloggers there is no chance in hell I'd own a MAC palette.
I mean, it's such an expensive thing to own, and really it's kinda pointless if you're not an MUA; but when you see everyone having one, you decide that you too must have one. Much like how you had to carry your PE kit in a Jane Norman bag, even though a back pack would've been much better, and also like how everyone and their wife now owns a cactus!

Anyway, yes, I have a MAC palette, and whilst I really don't need it, I loves it. I love that you can create a palette full of colours just for you, and you alone. However, if I were to start again, there are definitely some I'd pass up on, so in this post I'm sharing with you, my likes, loves and loathes, to help you when building your MAC palette.

First off, what's actually in my palette?

Top row L-R: Malt Era, Wedge, Quarry, Mystery
Middle row L-R: Naked Lunch, Patina, Woodwinked, Handwritten, Club
Bottom row L-R: All That Glitters, Mulch, Sable, Satin Taupe, Carbon

My most used and most loved would have to Era, Wedge, Patina, Satin Taupe, Handwritten and Club. Era and Patina are very similar, however Era is slightly more natural looking and more golden toned. Satin Taupe is just the best eyeshadow colour ever. Club has that awesome two tone colour to it that means you get an awesome smokey eye, with only one colour. Wedge and Handwritten are the perfect smoking out shades/crease colours.

I use them, but wouldn't miss 'em terribly shades are Naked Lunch, All that Glitters, Carbon and Mystery. Whilst they're all nice enough shades, they don't really wow me. Carbon is just another black, and Mystery is a good crease colour, but I just don't use it that often. Naked Lunch and All that Glitters are nice, but they don't really do much, if that makes sense?

The ones I wouldn't buy again are Malt, Quarry, Mulch, Woodwinked and Sable. I've grown to like Sable, but I don't really think it suits my skin tone, but would recommend if you have green eyes as I imagine it would look beautiful. Woodwinked I hate, it's so orange toned and in your face. Mulch I used to like, but again feel it's too warm toned for me. Quarry I just rarely use, ad prefer other colours for my crease. Malt is just so nothingy, a complete impulse and one I regret buying, it just doesn't do anything.

What are your MAC loves and loathes?

  1. So interesting! I have a very similar collection of colours but I absolutely chow through All That Glitters and hardly ever use Club. You've inspired me to switch it up a bit now!

  2. I've swatched Carbon before and just wouldn't buy it, doesn't seem like the best matte black out there. Lovely palette though.

  3. Hmmm...interesting! Thanks for sharing your love and leaves when it comes to MAC eyeshadows. I am thinking of buying some, but I can't get over how expensive they are individually (I believe one eyeshadow retails for $36 in Australia - yikes). I do really like warm toned eyeshadows so I might like Woodwinked and Mulch. I have my eye on Patina but might consider Era instead if it's similar. Carbon seems pointless - I have so many matte black eyeshadows and I don't think it's the best one on the market :p
