Three Ways To: Apply Foundation

Before I started blogging or watching Youtube I always just used to apply my foundation with fingers. I could never work with the type of foundation brush I bought and it was just simpler that way. I then moved onto brushes, and was amazed at the flawless finish they could give, and also that a foundation brush wasn't only the flat paint brush type. Now I know that certain products need different techniques, so I thought I would share the three ways I apply foundation.

A brush is probably my favourite way to apply foundation. I just know that afterwards I will be left with a flawless finish. I also feel that using brushes give you better coverage too. Obviously a different brush will give different coverage because of it's density, for example the Real Techniques Stippling Brush will give lighter coverage than the Buffing Brush, both however are great brushes.

'scuse the dirty sponge, but I actually use it, shock horror! I love using this with my Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation, and find that when using a damp sponge it makes my foundation look extremely natural and second skin like, which is a look I love. But I do find it takes longer to get the stuff on my face, so it's not an everyday technique for me.

And finally fingers. This is probably the easiest way to apply foundation to your face, but make sure you clean your hands first so no germs get onto your face. Also make sure everything is blended thoroughly to make sure you aren't left with tell tale lines.

So these are my three favourites ways to apply foundation, what are yours?

  3. My favourite ways to apply foundation are either with a flat top brush, or a damp beauty blender :) I always just used to use my hands until finding the joys of blogging and Youtube too lol x

  5. I think I've gone full circle, started off with fingers, then sponges and brushes and now I seem to prefer using my fingers again! Some foundations just seem to work better without brushes, although I do love my stippling brush xx

  8. I alternate between brush and fingers; it depends how much time I have and how much of a perfect finish I'm after! fingers are super quick and easy but I prefer the finish with brushes :) good post :) x

  9. Stipling brush is the one thing I use when applying foundation. I really need to get the Real Techniques one because my old one has started to shed way too much for my liking... :D

  10. I use a brush to put it on and fingers to blend. Mostly because my foundation brush isn't great, haha. I really want to try a real techniques brush.

  11. I have always used my fingers, I do wash my hands before I do and it’s faster, but recently i have been using the beauty blender its ok it does blend my foundation pretty good but you're right I does take longer and in the morning I need something quick so my fingers will do. I will have to get a brush to see how I like them any recommendations. Great Post :)

  15. I used to use sponges a lot, I had this one sponge I'd be constantly washing to use again and again. Lately I'm fed up of brushes and using my fingers and like the finish! I've been able to wear foundations I started to hate again :)

  17. I always use my fingers as it just works best with my foundation, but sometimes a damp sponge does the trick...the way each foundation could look different on someone else based on their technique really is something else.
