It is a truth universally acknowledged that....

When Ross comes back from China with Julie

The day you actually take time over your hair will be the day it pours down with rain and you forget your umbrella.

Doctors, Dentists and Hairdressers will all be running seriously behind schedule except for the one day you're slightly late.

The person on the street who wants you to stop for only a minute will keep you there for at least ten.

Putting your spare change in a charity collection box will make you feel 100x better about yourself.

There will always be two men in your life who will be there for you whenever; their names are Ben and Jerry.

The comfiest looking shoes are the ones that will give you a million blisters.

You often only buy magazines for the freebies.

For at least an hour after watching a YouTube video you'll narrate your life to yourself.

The one day you forget to do something at work is the day your boss (and their boss) ask to see it.

There is always one nail that takes longer to dry then others and ends up smudging all over your fingers, bed clothes and life.

As soon as you figure out what all the 'cool' lingo actually means, it won't be cool anymore.

Same goes for fashion trends, as soon as you decide you actually want a pair of flared jeans they will no longer be 'on trend'.

The one day you take your sunglasses out of your handbag will be the hottest day of the year so far and you'll be constantly squinting and cursing the extra lipstick you traded the sunglasses space for.

On the day you leave the office early to get to an appointment there will be five cars broken down, 3 old ladies taking an hour to cross the road and an escaped deer from the local animal reservation.

17 things you learn when you work from home

I'm now extremely lucky in the sense that I'm now able to work from home. Whilst I think my car misses all the one on one time we used to share together I'm totally loving it, so I thought I'd share some of my thoughts on what life is like when you do actually work from home.

1) You'll begin to forget the last time you washed your hair.

-2) If you don't remind yourself to go outside you can not leave the house for days.

3) Days of the week all merge into one and it's only until others are in the house too that your realise it's the weekend.

4) You feel guilty not replying to emails at 8 o'clock at night 'cause you're already in bed.

5) Your new uniform will consist of leggings that haven't been washed for a few weeks and a hoodie that's three sizes too big for you.

6) Social media becomes your new best friend as there is always someone there to interact with.

7) Getting out of bed is even more difficult in the morning as you know you could actually stay there, but you also know you really shouldn't.

8) Procrastination becomes your second job.

9) You become weirdly obsessed with your neighbours and their coming and going.

10) If you have a pet, you will find yourself having numerous conversations with them each day.

11) When you do have to leave the house (ew) you spend a lot of time doing your hair and make-up because you can't remember the last time you did it, or remember what it's like to look at your face and not see dark circles and spots with freshly washed hair.

12) You'll sit down and try to find something to watch on TV on your lunch and then find yourself having your lunch at the same time each day to keep up to date with the series.

13) You feel sad when you think you've finished all your work for the day and can go enjoy Netflix when an email pops into your inbox.

14) Shoes feel like torture as they're not cosy slippers or fluffy socks and they're not being supported by soft carpet. Damn you pavement.

15)  Your food supplies will go down a lot faster.

16) Sometimes you'll find yourself singing out loud just to hear sounds, and it'll often be something weird like the theme tune to Bob the Builder.

17) You'll never want to leave the house again.

Small fish, bloody ginormous ocean syndrome

Another blog post that I feel compelled to write that explains my lack of blogging. I know, it's kind of like that's all this blog has become; but it's something I hope once written down and out on the big bad web I'll feel a little clearer.

I've seen many bloggers talking about how much blogging has changed in the last couple of years, and it really has. I remember when I first fell into this world even the biggest of bloggers still had mainstream jobs and just blogged on the side. Whilst there was still a little competition to rise to the fame of these bigger bloggers it was more to see if you could get more free stuff, not to make a full on living from your blog and become an Internet celebrity. With the popularity of blogging growing, so has the number of people trying their hand it (which I am in no way dissing, this was something I did!).

This means that blogging is a whole different ball game to what it was back when I started. Of course there was the little competition between new blogs of who could get the most followers via GFC, who had the most comments etc. and those who say the numbers don't bother them are lying. It's nice seeing people getting involved in something you're doing, and the more people the better you feel. It's a way of life, and one of the reasons why people are so obsessed with social media, its nice to feel 'liked' and wanted. (There are actual studies on this, if you wanted to read more about it.)

Now, however, GFC is gone and in it's place are a multitude of different platforms which you need to appear to have a massive following on. It's not enough for your post to get a comment on the bottom (if anything this has disappeared, and I'm guilty of not commenting anymore) you need to have the post shared on social media, re-tweeted on Twitter, liked on Facebook. Not only that, your post has to stand out from the thousands similar floating around.

It's tough! Well at least I think it is. I think we'd be lying if we said we didn't want our blog to be a success. We want to see rewards for the time and effort we're putting into something. Yes it's fun, and that should be enough, but when you see others being sent lots of nice freebies or going to fancy launches and even making a living from their blog, you can't help but want some of that; surely?

Of course there are things you can do to help make your blog a success, spend time creating new and exciting content, take the time to share it on social media, be sociable on social media etc. but a lot of it is just down to luck.

For me, I work in social media and the last thing I want to do when I get home is spend more time working on social media. I mean I looove going on Instagram and Pinterest etc. but having to use it in the same way I do at work just doesn't excite me; and I'm not very lucky. So I've been left thinking what's the point. Why take the time to write posts that have probably been written before when I could just be lounging around on Instagram? Well, because I like my blog.

So what does this whole post come down to? I need to go back to basics. Remember why I started blogging, rekindle my love the act, not the rewards and everything else that comes with it. So if you read my blog or even like my blog, I thank you. It means a lot to me. Really, it does. However if you couldn't give two hoots, that's fine as this blog is for me and I need to remember that.

Where am I going to go from here? I'm still not 100% sure, but I know I'm not going to let my little space on the Internet just vanish. I may be a small fish in a bloody ginormous ocean, but I fully intend to keep swimming. (Gah so cringe.)

Being a 80 year old in an 22 year olds body

I've always been mature for my age. I think it mainly stems from the fact I've always been the oldest of all my relations, and really bossy(!).

People would regularly complement me on my maturity levels, I've been told off for being too 'motherly' when looking after my younger brother and I often find myself telling my parents off for being too immature.

With this in mind over the last few years I've found myself filling the stereotypes of people much, much (much) older than me. Many people find it weird how small and select my social life is, how a night in with a box set is heaven for me & how I'm 'wasting my youth'.

So this post is dedicated to all those other secret grannies living in a young body.

You're welcome.

1) People look sad when you tell them you have no plans for the weekend, whereas you're jumping for joy at the thought. (Not leaving the house or getting dressed = best plans ever!)

2) More than three items on the calender for the week makes it a busy week. (Even if one of these events is going to the dentist.)

3) Silence is nice. You don't need to have the TV/music/YouTube/anything on to relax.

4) People don't understand why you take a coat on a night out with you.
(Let alone, the thought of a night out makes you want to hibernate and leaves you pondering which excuse you could use, before going on the night out & realising you're not 18 anymore.)

5) You also end up staring at people with little clothes on wondering how they're not cold.

6) Anything past 10pm 9pm is a late night.

7) You find yourself tutting at the 'youth of today'.

8) You've found yourself uttering the phrase "when I was young..."

9) On more than one occasion you've wondered what retired life would be like.

10) You like to wake up early to 'make the most of the day'. Even on the weekend.

Now go get down with your granny self!
